From my office chair I glance across the rain soaked busy road
to an alleyway slightly obscured from view
A red and white revolving sign, a lone flickering lamp
fronts a barber shop that’s used seldom by few
But of all the clientele I’ve witnessed enter, I’ve never once seen anybody leave
With the belief that curiosity could never kill this cat
I decide to take a look on my way home
I find shutters closed, doors locked, but through an archway to the side
descending steps, though scared I venture down alone
I creep along the wall amidst the darkness, a broken window pane I can’t not look inside
As I strike a match I’m instantly confronted by a sight that would inflict scars on your eyes
At least a hundred eyeless faces, each one fashioned with a rose
Jam jars containing fingers, a charm box full of toes
Ornamental severed ears hang from a lampshade made from teeth
It’s a butchers not a barbers, an acquired taste in meat
Discarded bones, peeled skin, strewn about the floor
Secateurs and razors hang, my eyes can take no more
Frantically retreating, uncontrollably I choke
I feel a hand upon my shoulder and scissors to my throat
